THE MONKEY’S MASK by Dorothy Porter
Produced & Performed by Joanne Davis
Adapted to stage by Joanne Davis & Verity Higgins
Directed by Verity Higgins
Live Music by Bruce Millar
Performed: Byron Bay Writer’s Festival, Mildura Writer’s Festival, St. Kilda Writer’s festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Adelaide Feast Festival & 45downstairs etc.
I thoroughly endorse Joanne Davis' stage adaption of my crime thriller in verse The Monkey's Mask. The intensity of her performance was both in keeping with the temperature of the poetry as well as being enthralling. My experience of Joanne Davis' adaption of my book has been a very happy one.
Dorothy Porter, Author, The Monkey’s Mask
You can see the steam rising from the pavement in this pared-back stage adaptation of Dorothy Porter’s marvellous crime novel in verse, The Monkey’s Mask. Davis effortlessly weaves them [multiple characters] into this hour-long show, bringing each one to life with carefully composed gestures that recur like musical themes throughout…made all the more effective by Davis’ understated performance…sound, image and movement are meticulously choreographed.
Louise Nunn, The Advertiser, Adelaide
Taut, elegant, seductive.
Marele Day, award-winning Australian novelist
‘…this exceptionally good performance by Joanne Davis. Davis and director Verity Higgins have constructed a gripping monologue through the most careful selection of passages from Porter’s much bigger work. All the elements are there – the tension, the mystery, a touch of whodunit – and also the steaminess…Pick of the week!’
Peter Burdon, Blaze, Adelaide
… distills the poet's already powerful crime thriller into a sharp and gritty one-hour, one-woman stage show. Not to be missed. Lindy Cameron, Author
2:20 AM by Rebecca Lister
Produced by Anvil Productions (Artistic Directors: Joanne Davis & Rebecca Lister)
Directed by Hallie Shellam
Performed: Richmond Theatrette & Touring
… a beautifully powerful new work, that goes beyond the loss of a loved one and into the lives of those struggling to understand why.
… four extremely believable characters who carry the subject with incredible warmth & depth… individually these are terrific actors, but together, as an ensemble, they are outstanding.
Theatre People ★★★★
… strong work from a talented ensemble … as they build authentic relationships between their characters …
… Joanne Davis’ Trish is a mix of fragility and frustration.
My Melbourne Arts
Painful at moments, the show is a real and frank conversation on life, survival and grief and gives in equal measure quality theatre with great performances and a dose of laughter.

FOXHOLES OF THE MIND by Bernard Clancy
Performed: La Mama Courthouse; The Potato Shed, Geelong & Philip Island
Produced by Larrikin Ensemble Theatre
Directed by Wold Heidecker
Every one of these truly difficult characters is finely drawn and believably portrayed, with Peter Finley and Joanne Davis excellent in their central roles.
This powerful play… will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on every one who was there to see it. I urge you to take the opportunity to go and experience Foxholes of the Mind. It’s a production of power and eloquence - and it’s probably the most potent anti-war play that I have seen.
